Library Commission Re-Appoints Donna Morris and Re-Elects Officers

The Metropolitan Library System commissioners, who serve as the oversight and governing board for the countywide consolidated system, have re-appointed 37-year library veteran Donna Morris to the position of MLS executive director.

“I am honored,” Morris said, “that the commission is entrusting the care and progress of the library system to me for another year. The commission, the library staff and I will continue to do all we can to maintain Metropolitan Library System's reputation as one of the most service oriented and technologically innovative library systems in the country.”

The Metropolitan Library Commission, which is composed of 17 voting members representing Oklahoma City, Bethany, Choctaw, Del City, Edmond, Midwest City, The Village and Warr Acres, as well as Ex-Officio members Mick Cornett and County Commissioner Jim Roth, also re-elected its standing officers for another term at its last meeting.

Hugh Rice, who has been a member of the Commission since 1992, was re-elected to his third term as chair. “I am pleased to be returning as chair of the library commission,” Rice said. “We have a lot to do this year, and I'm eager to continue working on the tasks at hand.”

MLS' executive director, Donna Morris, who is also the commission's non-voting secretary, was pleased that such an outstanding slate of officers was re-elected.

“We have a lot of important project this year, from working on plans for expanding the system to maintaining our position as a state leader in library technology, and we couldn't have finer people to lead us than Hugh Rice, vice-chair Dr. Ann Caine, and disbursing officer David Greenwell.

“MLS is very lucky,” Morris added, “to have a library commission made up of people who are as dynamic and interested in the goals of the public library as are the librarians and other staff members themselves.”

The other members of the Metropolitan Library Commission include Mrs. Nancy Anthony, Mr. Ralph Bullard, Mrs. Carolyn Cornelius, Mr. Scott R. Duncan, Mrs. Millicent Gillogly, Mrs. Deanna Hannah, Mr. Jose Jimenez, Mr. Lee Alan Leslie, Mrs. Penny McCaleb, Mrs. Shirley Pritchett, Ms. Marguerite Ross, Mrs. Cynthia Trent, Mrs. Peggy Winters, and Mr. Greg Womack.

The Metropolitan Library System of Oklahoma County includes 12 libraries and five extension libraries. Branch libraries include Belle Isle, Capitol Hill, Downtown, Ralph Ellison & Southern Oaks in Oklahoma City, as well as Bethany, Choctaw, Del City, Edmond, Midwest City, The Village and Warr Acres libraries. Extensions are located in the communities of Harrah, Jones, Luther, Nicoma Park , and the Wright library in Oklahoma City .
