Friends of the Library 29th Annual Booksale

Friends Booksale 2008“Take a book to your pad and readit . . readit . . readit!”

The 29th Annual Friends of the Library Booksale 2008 will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 23 and 24, 9:00am to 5:30pm, at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in the Oklahoma Expo Hall (formerly the Made in Oklahoma Building).  Admission is free.

On Friday, February 22, from 5:30pm to 9:00pm, there will be a pre-sale party for members of the Friends of the Library.  Those who would like to join the Friends may purchase memberships in the lobby of Expo Hall the day of the party from noon to 4:00pm, and again at 6:00pm.  Annual dues are 10 dollars for individual or family memberships, good for four tickets to the party.  Memberships for seniors are six dollars and are good for two tickets.

Posters, bookmarks and tickets bear the image of a green frog lolling on a lily pad in a pool of blue water with cattails sprouting around him, reading a book, with the caption “Take a book to your pad . . . And readit . . . readit . . . readit!”

The selection will include more than 400,000 books covering a wide range of subjects:

fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, biographies, medicine, westerns, romance, children’s books, encyclopedias and reference books, plus a large selection of videos, DVDs and books on tape.

Booksale 2008 will again offer rock-bottom prices.  In the General Section, hardbacks are one dollar, paperbacks fifty cents, and magazines twenty-five cents each or two dollars for a bundle.  In Collectors’ Choice books are individually priced, most less than five dollars.

Proceeds from Booksale are used to purchase items not covered by the Library’s budget, and to provide funds for specialized programming.  Over the past 29 years The Friends has given more then 2.2 million dollars in the form of grants to the Metropolitan Library System.

Coordinators for Booksale 2008 are Friends volunteers Kenny Wilkerson and Larry Willrath.  For more information or to volunteer to work at Booksale, call the Friends of the Library office at 606-3763.  You may also send an email to friends@metrolibrary.org, or check out our website.  Go to www.metrolibrary.org and click on “Support Your Library.”
