The 33rd annual Friends of the Library BOOKSALE 2012 will be held on February 25 and 26, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in the Oklahoma Expo Hall. Admission is free to the general public. Friday, February 24, will be the much anticipated pre-sale party for members of the Friends from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Those who would like to join the Friends may purchase memberships in the lobby of the Oklahoma Expo Hall on Friday, February 25 from noon to 4:00 p.m. and again at 6:00 p.m. Annual dues are $10 for individual or family memberships (4 tickets) and $6 for seniors (2 tickets).
“Recycling books makes a huge impact on our environmental footprint,” Joe McReynolds, co-coordinator of the annual Booksale said recently. “It just makes good sense to reuse books.”
“The Metropolitan Library System does a wonderful job at providing the best books for all residents of Oklahoma County,” Larry Willrath, co-coordinator of the Booksale, says, “so when Booksale time rolls around, it’s a great opportunity for anyone, anywhere. No matter what city or state you live in.”
Booksale 2012 will offer more than 500,000 books covering a wide range of subjects including fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, biographies, medicine, westerns, romance, children’s literature, encyclopedias and reference books, plus a large selection of videos, DVDs and books on tape. All of the books are offered at tremendously low prices. Booksale is divided into two sections: General and Collector’s Choice. In the General section, hardbacks are one dollar and paperbacks are fifty cents. Magazines are twenty-five cents each or two dollars a bundle. In the Collector’s Choice section, books are individually priced with most less than five dollars.
Proceeds from the Friends’ Booksale are used to purchase items not covered by the Library’s budget and provide additional funds for special events and activities. Over the years, the Friends have been able to grant more than $2.9 million to the Metropolitan Library System with the monies raised at the Booksale.
Co-coordinators for Booksale 2012 are Friends volunteers, Joe McReynolds and Larry Willrath. For more information or to volunteer to work at the Booksale, please call the Friends office at (405) 606-3763 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit the Friends website at www.mlsfriends.org.
